Tramway recently entered an exciting period of change when building works began for the new Scottish Ballet headquarters, adjacent to Tramway. Recent visitors to Tramway may have noticed that our Café Bar had re-located to the first floor. This stage of the building work is now complete and the newly refurbished café bar has moved back to the ground floor
Our usual programme of visual art and performance has now resumed. Check out our website for season information. However building work will still continue around other areas of the building. Further details on all improvements to the building can be found in this website.
Tramway Café Bar
The newly refurbished Café Bar is now open. New features include a larger kitchen with more space and facilities; an extended seating area throughout, and a complete re-design of the décor. It is located on the ground floor, with a mezzanine level, and has access to and great views of the Hidden Gardens. For more information on our new café bar please call 0141 276 0953.
Tramway 5 - A New Gallery
A new gallery space replacing the Project Room gallery will open in April 2008. This new space, Tramway 5 (T5), will be located between the end of the main gallery space (T2) and the Albert Drive. Access will be from Tramway's foyer area opposite the box office.
The launch of T5 is an exciting development for the visual art programme and allows Tramway to present a wider, more diverse programme of work. It will be larger and more versatile than its predecessor, the Project Room, with floor to ceiling windows allowing the option of using natural daylight in the space. It will also give Tramway a presence and ‘visibility' on the street front.
The first exhibition planned for the space will be Rachel Mimiec for Glasgow International in April 2008

New Visual Arts Studio
The Visual Arts Studio, run by the Education Department, runs a whole range of practical art classes including Portfolio Preparation classes for aspiring artists, and classes for those with learning difficulties. The studio will move from its current home in Stable 7, transforming the Upper Café and current Project Room into a new improved studio, including a dark room.
Independent Dance Studio
Stable 4 will be converted into a dance studio, with a sprung floor and wall fitted mirrors. A great many choreographers and dancers from Glasgow's vibrant independent dance community will benefit from this exciting new space.
Whilst there will inevitably be some disruption within the building over these months, we will do everything we can to keep this to a minimum, and will keep this site up-to-date with any changes to the planned schedule, particularly where it may affect visitors to the building.
