Assemble Wins The Turner Prize 2015

Assemble are a collective based London who work across the fields of art, architecture and design. They began working together in 2010 and consist of 18 members. Their working practice seeks to address the typical disconnection between the public and process by which places are made. Often deploying unconventional means, their projects are self-initiated, self-made or self-organised, subverting typical hierarchies and procedures surrounding the realisation of architectural spaces.

Assemble have been nominated for their ongoing collaboration with local residents and others in Granby Four Streets, Liverpool. The project is a result of a 20 year battle by local residents to save rows of terraced houses in the area from demolition. Assemble have worked with the community to provide affordable housing for local residents that remains in community ownership.
