Jonathan Monk - Something No Less Important Than Nothing/ Nothing No Less Important Than Something
Gi 2008
As a highlight in our twentieth anniversary year, Tramway is delighted to present two exhibitions of work by Jonathan Monk.
Comprising new and existing work, together they reference both a personal history and that of the gallery itself.
Jonathan Monk’s cross media artworks glance back at the ‘high conceptualism’ of art in the 1960s and 1970s to explore through humour, irreverence or nostalgia, his own place as an artist in the twenty-first century.
Jonathan Monk was born in Leicester, England in 1969. He studied at The Glasgow School of Art from 1988-91 and now lives and works in Berlin. He is represented in the UK by The Lisson Gallery, London (www.lisson.co.uk)
Solo shows include Jonathan Monk: Continuous Project Altered Daily, ICA London, 2005; yesterday today tomorrow etc., Kunstverein Hannover, 2006; and solo shows at Palais de Tokyo and Musee d’Art Moderne, Paris, opening in May 2008.
