Sonica: Falling Sweets / Afternoon Membranophone - ASUNA
Part of Sonica Glasgow 2026
UK Premiere
Following his success with 100 Keyboards at Sonica Glasgow 2019, Japanese sound artist and experimental musician ASUNA returns with a playful, lo-fi works that use musical instruments in unpredictable ways. In this new work, a couple sits down to a very unusual meal. The table is set not on a solid surface, but a series of drumskins. The tableware has been replaced by toys and electronic musical instruments, and the meal is made up of colourful confectionary. As these surfaces start to vibrate unpredictably, their meal becomes a knockabout performance and a hilarious illustration of the dynamics of vibration.
