The world is in a grain of sand in two new works by Rob St John, made in collaboration with local communities in Lancashire and Cumbria. Each piece uses recordings collected from microphones placed in water, vegetation and rock, with additional musical and narrative elements contributed by young people, scientists, historians and community members braided into these ambient sounds. Aiming to make the local a voice for the global, these works explore land ownership, environmental justice, ecological change, Anthropocene environments and hidden legacies of colonialism.
ACCESS - this is a free installation, open daily during Tramway's opening hours.
