(We indulge in) a bit of roll play is the captivating new accessible production from Birds of Paradise Theatre Company taking a fearless look at sex and disability.

We wanted to call this show something else but the algorithms may have blocked us. We want to talk to you – honestly – about disabled people’s experience of sex.

Ben has a lot to navigate – uni, his parents, his sometimes girlfriend, and a secret or two. Everyone has always told him how he should live his life, what role he should play and how he should do it. It’s not as if he's afraid to indulge in a bit of exposure.

BOP returns in 2026 with an exclusive run of performances at Tramway. (We indulge in) a bit of roll play is an all-encompassing eruption of a production bringing together a collective of disabled artists, writers and performers.

Written by Hana Pascal Keegan, Gabriella Sloss and Robert Softley Gale, and directed by Robert Softley Gale, (We indulge in) a bit of roll play takes the audience on a funny, honest journey through the realms of disability and sex, from the stand up stage to the family kitchen table, the online world and beyond.

This production will include creatively embedded access. BSL will be performed onstage throughout by Jamie Rae and Yvonne Strain. Open Captioning throughout. Audio description options will be available pre-show and during the show. There will not be a separate relaxed performance, instead the company is very happy to provide detailed preshow information to assist with planning attendance and making pre-agreed adjustments if we can. Leaving the performance at any time is very acceptable and there will be a quiet space to utilise. Sensory bags with fidgets and noise-cancellation headphones will be available.

Please note that Birds of Paradise are still making this work therefore, the way they provide access will develop and may change. This is because access is designed into the production and not added on in fixed ways.
