A Cryptic Commission

Melding traditional acoustic instrumentation with drone and electronics, Harry Górski-Brown brings a new sound to what he terms “songs from a long time ago”. The skirling of small pipes melds seamlessly with electronic drone to form a sonic foundation that spans the centuries, over which Górski-Brown sings traditional Gaelic folksongs. In this new work, Fisher Price Pipes – AV, the addition of live processed visuals will elevate the audiovisual experience and bring the workings of the pipes as they are performed to the forefront.

The mistake is the medium in Broken Vinyl. Sound artist Mieko Suzuki and visual artist Claudia Rohrmoser’s joint record collection is filled with vinyl albums that are warped, scratched, dusty and otherwise damaged, but as the duo loop, sample and transform these glitches, skips and scraps of sound, a new music emerges – a danceable rhythm of errors. Through this improvisatory live sonic sculpting, records which might have been dismissed as unplayable turn out to hold a secret signal, as Broken Vinyl unlocks a music of distortion and disruption.
