Ivor Novello award-winning folk musician Martin Green’s new album Split The Air is a celebration of brass bands, and the strength of community and collective action. This one-off performance of the album by Green and Whitburn Band – one of the world’s top brass bands – also features former BBC Young Musician of the Year, Sheona White, on solo tenor horn, alongside storytelling and dramaturgy directed by Tom Morris (Warhorse).
Green explored the phenomenon that is modern brass banding in his acclaimed BBC Radio 4 series Love, Spit and Valve Oil. Listened to by millions and nominated for numerous awards, the documentary showcased the virtuosity and passion of the brass band community. Revealing the stories of the historic miners’ strike four decades ago, it also explored the importance of shared experiences.
