Tramway and Dance North presents Gorgeous Tongue by Lara Kramer

Anchored in this world while orbiting a universe beyond, For Gorgeous Tongue unfolds remembrance through rhythmic scores. Lara Kramer embodies stories and dreams rooted in her Anishinaabe lineage, inviting audiences into the intimacy of her artistic constellation and toward imagined futures. Born from the chemistry and kinship between two artists, the work emerged through Kramer’s collaboration with Nêhiyaw/Métis dance artist Jeanette Kotowich. In this iteration, Kramer carries the solo forward, offering the work to the public.

The solo oscillates between regulation and transformation, exploring pleasure, instinct, and interior connection—an inner technology carried in the gut that opens portals across time and space and holds ancestral intelligence. Through voice, minimal sound, and material engagement, Kramer traces a metamorphosis of human and non-human, energy and friction. Moments of struggle, play, turmoil, and surrender trace the full arc of a star being’s journey, revealing perseverance, agency, and Indigenous futurity.

“Somewhere amongst all these strands, we are weaving our imagination. Dreaming for hard loving and future journeys. Transporting in soft gorgeous tongue.”
— LK
