Breakin’ Convention Pre-Show

A takeover of Tramway for Breakin' Convention festival of Hip Hop Theatre - arrive early for the full festival experience!

Ahead of the ticketed Breakin' Convention programme (7.30pm on our main stage), audiences can experience a free festival takeover in spaces throughout Tramway from 5pm, transforming the venue into a live celebration of hip hop culture, community, and creative exchange.

Pre-show activities are free and unticketed, with no age restrictions!

In The Street (Foyer Café Bar)
Step into the energy of a live rap cypher in collaboration with Sunny Govan Radio. featuring Raj Mahal, Erin Friel, Pro Focus, Skyman, McG and Freestyle Master, an explosive line-up spanning generations, backgrounds and rap styles from across Scotland’s contemporary hip hop scene.

Music throughout the pre-show and interval will be provided by Glasgow's DJ Naeem, formerly a buyer at the iconic 23rd Precinct record store and a foundational figure within the city’s early hip hop scene.

In T4 (limited capacity, first come, first served)

HIGHEST, a hip hop exhibition battle curated by Divine Tasinda and THREE60.
Expect high-energy clashes, in a freestyle showcase by leading dancers and crews from across Scotland’s street dance communities:

Braveheart Scottish Krump, one of Glasgow’s emerging underground krump collectives
The Dimestop, Scotland’s first dedicated popping collective with direct links to pioneering Californian popping communities
THREE60, the Glasgow-based collective championing hip hop, krump, popping and African diasporic dance practices in Scotland.

PLUS British hip hop legend Jonzi D will chair an informal artist conversation with members of the Olivier Award-winning TRAPLORD company ahead of their headline performance.
